Mezei Szilárd Septet

Mezei Szilárd Septet

In 1941 Hitler asks the acting Hungarian government to allow the passing othe German troops through Hungary. In return he promises them the right to calim Yugoslavia as their own. Denying would mean invasion for Hungary. The Prime Minister at that time, Teleki commits suicide since he sees no possibile solution to the problem, and Admiral Horthy allows the troops free passage. Thus Hungary finds itself opposing the Western powers. After Croatia exits the war (thus nullifying the existence of te contract-obligated Yugoslavia) the Hungarian army invades yugosalvian territories, and at the beggining of 1942 the bloody raid in Novi Sad happens and claims numerous casualties...

... in 1944 comes revenge. The yugoslavian communist partisans start their vendetta-campaign in a victorious rage. They see the innocent Hugarian inhabitants as collectively guilty. There are no trials at this time, only torture, linching, mass executions....

This unique project, created by the Katona József Theater and the Popular Theatre of Subotica Hungarian Ensemble based their play on numerous testimonies by eyewitnesses or their descendants, thus trying to paint a true but unbeleivable picture about something that we almost forgot, since the silent fear of the people lasted for decades. They didn't dare do anything, they just turned their heads and kept their mouth shut... No wonder, the arm of terror is long. Until recently.
