Opera ultima
Beumarchais/Mladenović/Gyarmati
Kokan Mladenović, director: „ As he is smart and has a critical view of society, Beaumarchais’s Figaro rises above his owners. The revolutionary spirit of Figaro’s Wedding contributedto the success of the French Revolution, stimulating freedom of speech and free thought. By looking at these comedies we can re-live the sad life of servants and we can overcome some of today’s people, who are conceited and more uncultivated than people in Figaro’s time. This is, actually, the true meaning of dramatic theatre, so we took on an almost impossible role: we create opera. Taking advantage of the vocal abilities of the Novi Sad Theatre’s actors, in the first part we parody the opera The Barber of Seville with group songs, movement and scenes. The second part, Figaro’s Wedding, is the dark opposite to the first part, pointing to the current atmosphere in Serbia, but also to the status of theatre in the neighbouring country’s society. The role of the first part is to show faces, to entertain the audience, while the second part creates fear regarding what we presented.”
