The Original Hamlet
Mezei-Góli
Mezei Kinga tried to deconstruct the play so that it takes on the valences of a detective tragicomedy, just as the subtitle presents it. The great monologues of the bloody tragedy are interrupted by comical situations. The description of the struggle to accede to the throne and succession, as well as their interpretation is left to a cripple and obsessed Horatio, just as Poirot. The performance exposes the murder of old Hamlet and, as dialogues are said in a meaningless uttering of Danish words, it becomes the crooked mirror which reflects contemporary theatre. This version of Hamlet is different compared to previous ones, but it still is Hamlet.
