The Maids

Jean Genet

Inside Genet’s mirror game, the entire apparent reality reveals itself as imaginary and illusory, and the illusion itself proves to be just a part of a dream or another illusion, multiplied further on indefinitely, in order to reveal the absurdity and fundamental meaninglessness of existence. Even if the world is constructed out of illusory illusions, it can be reduced to ultimate reality. There is a stable point which allows us to observe the world safely, but even this point proves to be just a reflection, which is why the entire construction falls apart.
