We are TESZTing in May
Multiculturalism and cultural dialogue are the values which guide us for the seventh edition of the Euroregional Festival of Theatre Timisoara, TESZT. In the past years the event has become one of the most important meeting points for cultures, artists and theatre-lovers in the region.
Between the 24th and 31st of May, The “Csiky Gergely” Hungarian State Theatre from Timisoara is hosting artist and performances from Romania, Hungary and Serbia, with the aim of showing the latest dramatic, cultural and artistic tendencies in the region.
Some of the guest of the festival are: the National Serbian Theatre from Novi Sad, the Theatre of Novi Sad, the Kosztolányi Dezső Theatre from Subotica, the Popular Theatre of Subotica, Hungarian Ensemble, the Jel Theartre, Nézőművészeti Kft, Katona József Theatre from Budapest, Forte Company, Studio K Theatre, Pintér Béla and Company, the Symptoms, the Cultural Centre from Novi Sad or the Secret Company from Budapest.
The performances and the off-programs have a common theme. Most of them are built around the issue of how to deal with the past. But we do not focus only on the past, but on the future as well. One of the most important goals of the organizers is to create an educational platform for the young generation, a platform which could facilitate a better knowledge and a better understanding of the diversity of cultures and artistic forms in the region.
One element of this educational platform is the international workshop coordinated by the Serbian director Urbán András. Students from Romanian, Hungarian and Serbian universities are welcome to join this theatrical experiment, in which, during one week they will work starting from a historically well-known fact, that Dózsa György was brutally killed 500 years ago in Timisoara. The workshop will end with a performance.
TESZT off brings us concerts and exhibitions and also special performances and encounters, like the open rehearsals held by Baczó Tünde and Táborosi Margaréta, two famous choreographers or the improvisation performances of the Secret Company, named Theatre Jam.
The Hungarian Theatre of Timisoara is looking forward to seeing you!
