Street performances for the whole family: from Argentina and Brazil – at the Euroregional TESZT Festival 16 Euroregional Festival (TESZT16)

The 2026 edition of the TESZT Festival TESZT Festival brings a series of street theatre performances to the squares of Timișoara as part of its 16th edition, with the aim of extending into the city’s fabric and getting closer to local residents between May 23–30. The events are free of charge and can be enjoyed in the city’s iconic public squares — Piața Unirii Union Square, Piața Victoriei Victory/Opera Square, Piața Libertății Liberty Square, and Piața Sfântul Gheorghe St. George Square.

The stilt performance “Above the Ground” by Kreatív Kráter Kör evokes one of humanity’s oldest dreams: breaking free from the earth. Looking at the world from above, the performers use acrobatic scenes to explore how we might come closer to the sky. The 30-minute, non-stop production will be staged in Union Square and Victory Square.

Brazilian guest Dan Marques brings the award-winning “Funnykito Show” to Timișoara, blending humor, magic, and illusion. Through highly visual acts, audiences witness seemingly impossible events unfold before their eyes. The show has toured successfully in 46 countries and will be performed in Opera Square.

Méhes Csaba joins the festival with two pantomime productions. In “Mimóka”, anything is possible: the main character transforms into a weightlifter, hen, frog, robot, or knight, while children actively participate in the performance. “Pantomix – a comic cocktail without words” is a classic pantomime show full of humorous situations. Mimóka will take place in Victory Square, while Pantomix will be performed in the courtyard of the Project Center.

The Tintaló Társulás company brings a miniature circus tent to Liberty Square. In “Tintaló Circus”, only 25 children can enter the tent, while adults may watch through small openings cut into the canvas. Inside, children are welcomed into a magical mechanical puppet show featuring a carved wooden elephant, clowns, and acrobats.

The new production “NOSo3” by the Argentine manoAmano Circus Company takes audiences into a dreamlike world filled with human-like puppets and gravity-defying objects, as spectators witness the birth of a mysterious creature that repeatedly tries to fly.

Sarkadi Bence’s“Traveling Puppets” has won numerous street theatre festival awards. Accompanied by music and built around a series of short stories, the unique marionettes come to life before the audience’s eyes. The show will be presented in St. George Square and Liberty Square.

The Catalan troupe Guixot de 8 transforms play into street theatre. In “Mechanical Toy”, artists bring interactive mechanical games made from recycled materials into public spaces, inviting both children and adults to explore and play together.

TESZT is organized by the Csiky Gergely Hungarian State Theatre with funding from the Local Council.
